The Deputy Vice-President for international affairs is appointed by Karolinska Institutet’s President for a three-year term, with a possible extension. The Deputy Vice-President reinforces the university leadership in the implementation of Strategy 2018 and has overall responsibility for KI's international collaborations.
The Deputy Vice-President for International Affairs seeks to promote, develop and coordinate Karolinska Institutet’s international activities, oversee and review large-scale international endeavors, and set policies and best practices for the KI’s internationalization strategy. The Deputy Vice-President is responsible for developing and overseeing a variety of university-wide initiatives and policies relating to international research, education, and collaboration.
Professor Maria G. Masucci has held the position of Deputy Vice-President for International Affairs since April 2015. She is appointed for three years. As the first tenure of the position Professor Masucci has initiated an inventory of the current international activities with the aim to identify strengths and weaknesses that will guide the formulation of an effective internationalization strategy including improved support of international activities, student and personnel mobility and a broader communication of Karolinska Institutet’s international agenda within and outside the organization. This work also includes reviewing KI’s alumni activities to strengthen the University’s global contacts and networks. Implementing a global perspective in medical research and education is high among her personal priorities.
