Har varit prorektor på Karolinska Institutet 2013-2015.

Är ledamot i Karolinska universitetssjukhusets styrelse, ledamot i Stiftelsen Flemingsbergs science samt ingår i styrgruppen för CTMH - Center for Technology in Medicine and Health.

Professor i arbetsterapi sedan 2009.

Doktorsexamen vid Karolinska Institutet 1998, Neurologiska Institutionen, på en avhandling med titeln: Unilateral Neglect: Aspects of rehabilitation from an occupational therapy perspective. Docent i arbetsterapi 2004.

Åren 1999-2009 universitetslektor vid KI med klinisk anknytning till Rosenlunds geriatriska klinik och senare arbetsterapikliniken vid Karolinska universitetssjukhuset.

Sedan 2004 medlem av styrelsen för Nationella stroketeamrådet och sedan 2006 medlem i Strokeförbundets vetenskapliga råd. 

2002-2008 chef för sektionen för arbetsterapi, 2005-2008 lärarrepresentant i styrelsen för utbildning och mellan 2009-2013 prefekt för institutionen för neurobiologi, vårdvetenskap och samhälle (NVS), KI.

Forskningsbeskrivning

Forskningen handlar om rehabiliteringsprocessen efter stroke med fokus på personens och närstående personers aktivitetsengagemang i vardagen. Forskargruppen avser att utveckla, utvärdera och implementera en personcentrerad modell för rehabilitering i enlighet med internationella riktlinjer för utveckling av komplexa, icke-farmakologiska interventioner. Syftet är att möjliggöra upplevelse av aktivitetsengagemang och delaktighet i vardagslivet.

Rehabiliteringsmodellen är baserad på en serie av kvalitativa studier av personers upplevelser under rehabiliteringsprocessen efter stroke men även kvalitativa studier av närstående personers upplevelser. Modellen utvärderas nu i en randomiserad kontrollerad studie och nästa steg är att utveckla modellen vidare genom att involvera det interprofessionella teamet och använda Informations och Kommunikations Teknologi (ICT) för att understödja en sammanhållen rehabiliteringskedja. Gruppen har nu erhållit medel för att utveckla en aktivitetsvetenskapligt baserad modell för stroke-prevention för personer som har en ökad risk att insjukna i stroke, t ex efter en TIA (Transistorisk Ischemisk Attack). I detta projekt ingår även att utveckla ny ICT-baserad undersökningsmetodik för att kunna mäta förändring i personers aktivitetsmönster, aktivitetsbalans och aktivitetsengagemang men även risk att insjukna i stroke. Forskningen sker i samarbete med forskare inom neurologi, allmänmedicin och datavetenskap samt internationella forskargrupper inom ”occupational science”.

Forskningen rör konsekvenser av kognitiva funktionsnedsättningar i patientens vardag, samt hur terapeutiska komponenter i miljöer och aktiviteter kan bidra till återhämtning efter en stroke.

Forskargruppen är särskilt inriktad på att studera de kunskapsluckor som identifierats inom hälso- och sjukvården och frågor som rör vardagen hos personer med neurologiska funktionshinder. Forskningen utgår från flera olika perspektiv: dels från personerna/klienterna/patienterna med neurologiska funktionshinder dels från deras närstående och från hälso- och sjukvårdspersonalen.

Dessutom utvecklar och studerar forskargruppen effekterna av nya hälso- och sjukvårdsinsatser i nära samarbete med hälso- och sjukvårdspersonal för att underlätta att de åtgärderna kommer till användning i klinisk praxis. Ett exempel på detta är olika undersöknings- och bedömningsinstrument för patienter med stroke som forskargruppen har utvecklat; instrument som används internationellt såväl inom forskning som inom rehabilitering.
