Arbetsmiljötoxikologi

Vi studerar upptag, omsättning och akuta effekter av kemisk exponering, främst via försök med friska frivilliga försökspersoner i exponeringskammare och datorsimuleringar med fysiologiskt baserade toxikokinetiska modeller. Försöken med frivilliga utförs i enlighet med Helsingforsdeklarationen, efter informerat samtycke och godkännande av etikprövningsnämnden. Resultaten är ofta avgörande vid fastställande av gränsvärden för arbetsmiljön. Vi tillämpar även våra erfarenheter via medverkan i svenska och internationella expertgrupper för hygieniska gränsvärden.

Exempel på ämnen och frågeställningar som studerats under senare år är: ammoniak, biologisk exponeringsmätning via utandningsluft och saliv, cyanväte, dioxan, fenotypning av cytokrom P450 2E1, fluorkolväten (HFC), hexanal, hudupptag, interindividuell variation, isopropanol, könsskillnader, lacknafta, metanol, n-hexan, vattenbaserad målarfärg, xylen och ättiksyra.

I takt med bättre åtgärder mot luftföroreningar i arbetsmiljön har hudupptag av kemiska ämnen uppmärksammats allt mer. Vi var de första att visa att hudupptaget av vissa lösningsmedel (glykoletrar) ökar efter utspädning i vatten och att upptaget via huden av dessa ämnen i ångform är betydande och kanske t.o.m. större än via inandning. Vi har nu utvecklat en ny metod att studera diffusion av flyktiga ämnen i huden via termogravimetrisk analys.
