Om mig

Undervisning
För närvarande undervisar jag huvudsakligen på två av de kurser som ges i sista terminen på sjuksköterskeutbildningen, Kursledare och handledare/examinerande lärare i kursen Examenarbetet i Omvårdnad och seminarieledare/examinerande lärare i kursen kursen Vård av äldre i en föränderlig livssituation. Jag håller även regelbundet Case seminarier kring frågor som rör ledarskap och kommunikation.

Forskning
Mitt forskningsområde: Kommunikationen och delat beslutsfattande i behandlingsbeslut.
Aktuellt forskningsprojekt: Kommunikativa tillämpningar i samtalsmöten mellan äldre och institutionella representanter.  Medverkande i projektet är också Barry Saferstein, professor i kommunikationsvetenskap, vid California State University San Marcos, US, PhD, i kognitiv Sociologi och  Ulla Hellström Muhli, Uppsala Universitet.
Ett annat projekt, som bygger vidare på de ovan nämnda, handlar om att undersöka hur forskningsresultat kan överföras och bli tillämpbara i den kliniska utbildningsmiljön.

Postdoctoral position

Post doctoral visit in Uppsala University, Intitution in Sociology, 23 January to 31 August 2016 in a project in cooperation with Prof. Barry Saferstein, Professor in Cognitive sociology and communication research in California State University San Marcos, US and Ulla Hellström Muhli, Associate Professor of Sociology, University Lecturer in Social Work RNs. Social Gerontology, University of Uppsala. The project aims to develop knowledge of consultations within the framework of elderly care. The project problematized standards for professional communication and efficiency of the calls at consultative meetings between older people and healthcare professionals. Eleni Sioutas participation is as a post doc and financially supported by a research grant from the National Association for Aging Research.

Teaching Experience

Pedagogical experience approx. 13 years at university level.

Lecturer full-time until 2016. My pedagogical experience is primarily derived from positions of independent responsibility within areas such as management, course administration, planning, implementation, examination and evaluation of courses from Karolinska Institutet, Jönköping University and Kristianstad University. The forms of teaching that I have used include lectures, seminars, workshops, project-organised teaching, field teaching (practical courses), tutoring and web-based teaching.

 

Tutorship:
2004-2017: Tutor to students looking to complete their studies/degrees, approx. 200 students at Bachelor level (level C) and 10 in advance level.

Lectures:

2004-2009: I have had assignments as a lecturer within Karolinska Institutet as well as at other Swedish universities, approx. 30 assignments in total.

During the time I worked as a teacher of university courses at Bachelor level I was also involved with certain commissioned courses, as follows:

2008 Teacher of commissioned course, Telephone Counselling, Västerås Hospital. This course was aimed at nurses employed at the hospital.

2001 Teacher of commissioned course, Tutorship, Municipality of Kristianstad. This course was aimed at administrators/case officers, care managers and teachers employed by the local municipal government.

Experience of Further Training Courses and Continuation Courses

I have experience of teaching district nurses within their further training/continuation courses after they have completed their basic course of study.

 

Course Development

2002. I developed the course: Communication in Nursing and research methodology, 7.5 ECTS credits
2004. I developed the course: Nursing Methods, 7.5 ECTS credits

I have also developed courses within the basic study programme for nurses, from traditional classroom-based courses to web-based courses for distance studies via an information system (Ping-Pong). I have carried out course development both independently and in collaboration with other teachers.

I have been responsible for the development of all courses for which I have been made course manager. Working independently for the most part, although together with colleagues on occasions, I have produced teaching materials in the form of study tutorials and study guides for both traditional classroom-based courses and courses conducted via distance studies via the university’s web-based system. The study guides have also contained directions for workshops in communication skills.

Teacher Exchange

2005-2008 Teacher exchange (1 week at a time, on 2 occasions) with foreign university in Athens, Greece, through the Erasmus teacher exchange programme.

2007 Teacher exchange with foreign university in Stavanger, Norway, through the Nord Plus teacher exchange programme.
