Seminar: Neurovascular interactions in neuroinflammation - Mechanisms, imaging and therapeutic potential
Speaker: Dr Katerina Akassoglou, PhD.
Katerina Akassoglou is Senior Investigator at the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease and Professor of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco, USA.
Dr Akassoglou has pioneered studies in the investigation of peripheral triggers of neurologic diseases, and in particular the role of the blood protein fibrinogen in CNS autoimmunity, trauma, and neurodegeneration. Her aim is to understand the mechanisms that control the communication between the brain, immune and vascular systems with the ultimate goal to design novel therapies for neurologic diseases - and in particular, multiple sclerosis.
Faculty host: Dr Niccolò Terrando, Assistant Professor, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Karolinska Institutet.
