Calpain, KCC2 and sodium channels: a diabolic "menage à trois" responsible for spasticity after spinal cord injury

Professor Laurent Vinay

Institut de Neurosciences de la Timone, Marseille

Laurent Vinay is professor at the newly established Institut de Neurosciences de la Timone in Marseille, which is interdisciplinary with a goal to understand integrated brain function and diseases of the brain. Laurent Vinay is known for his studies on the development of motor coordination in rodents and in particular the changing expression of different subtypes of ion channels and transmitters, and their importance for the development of motor function. More recently he has done very elegant studies on the importance of the potassium chloride co-transporter KCC2 and processes that lead to motor dysfunction, like spasticity.
