Vid den inflammation som bidrar till åderförkalkning bildas från fettsyror en viktig grupp ämnen kallade leukotriener. Att blockera dessa ämnens effekter skulle kunna leda till nya behandlingsprinciper mot kardiovaskulär sjukdom.
