Professor of Clinical Virology at the Department of Laboratory Medicine since 1994.
Anders Vahlne is interested in HIV and other human retroviruses. His research has resulted in diagnostic methods for detecting HIV infections, but his focus lies also on the development of new therapeutic drugs.
Along with his research group, he has developed a molecule named alpha-HGA that destroys HIV virus particles by a unique mechanism. Another effort is producing "molecular adapters" that can be combined with naturally occurring antibodies so that they start destroying the HIV virus.
