Ongoing research projects:

1: Tailored intervention program for frail elderly living at home

Aim/objective: The overall aim with the research project is to develop, implement and evaluate a Tailored Intervention Program (TIP) on participation in everyday life among community living frail older persons.

Findings from different research project have indicate that community based rehabilitation interventions can have limited, and even negative effects if the frail older persons individual needs and values are not considered or recognized. Qualitative studies have shown that community based interventions in the home have a potential to restore dignity and decrease feelings of insecurity, if appropriately targeted to the individual. The presented research project is a longitudinal intervention study with a randomized trail design. In addition qualitative data will be collected to capture outcomes that might be unexpected based on the hypothesis of this research project. Qualitative interview data will also be collected related to the implementation process.

2: Home modification services for older adults with functional limitations living at home

Aim / objective: To provide knowledge concerning environmental impact on occupational performance, community living and participation outcomes for older adults with functional limitations.

The project focuses on the impact of modifying the physical home environment for older adults in the adaptive process of aging in place and how occupation and the environment influences peoples occupational performance. Furthermore it aims to provide theoretical and empirical knowledge of the interactions involved in the encounter between persons who are aging with functional limitations in their home and the service organization related to home modification.

3: To age with a spinal cord injury - activity engagement and participation

Aim / objective: The overall aim with this doctoral project is to describe experiences of ageing with a spinal cord injury and to explore what influence their engagement and participations in everyday activities.

Point of departure in this project is that today persons with a spinal cord injury has the possibility of growing old. One reason for this is the development of new medical treatment. Therefore it is of great importance to study how persons' with spinal cord injury experience growing old and how it affects their possibilities to handle everyday life. Both quantitative and qualitative design is used.

5: Validation of the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventorty (PEDI) for the German speaking part of Europe - Assessing the ADL skills of children with and without disabilities.

6: To explore assessment practices during clinical placement in a occupational therapy

Aim / objectives: This project aims to describe and compare the design of the assessment practice in relation to higher education standards and to describe formal and informal assessment processes related to clinical practice.

This project will gain new knowledge to develop models for assessing students' professional competences during clinical placement. The project will also contribute to the knowledge around the relationships between changes of examination systems on a national level and how it influences on a program level.
