Professor Marianne van Hage

Allergic diseases are included among the chronic inflammatory diseases. Allergy is an immunological reaction, which means that the body reacts abnormally on contact with certain substances called allergens.

IgE-mediated allergy is the focus of Marianne van Hage's research. She is working on the development of new and effective treatment strategies and looking at how these affect the immune system.

Another line of research is investigating the immunological mechanisms of allergy and the role of the allergen in the pathogenesis of disease. This research is being carried out within well-established national and international networks in epidemiology, immunology, genetics, structural biology, biochemistry, and cell and molecular biology.
