Entry requirements
To be eligible for a doctoral/PhD position you must have been awarded a degree at advanced (master's/second cycle) level, satisfied the requirements for courses comprising of at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded at advanced level, or prove that you have acquired equivalent substantial knowledge in some other way.
Introductory day 5 May 2013
Newly arrived PhD students, postdocs and guest researchers are invited to attend an introduction day containing useful information about life at Karolinska Institutet as well as in Stockholm and Sweden.
What is PhD/doctoral education?
Doctoral education at Karolinska Institutet (aiming for a PhD) is based on the student's personal research project, which is complemented with courses and clearly specified knowledge requirements. A PhD requires a total of four years full-time doctoral education.
International collaboration
Studying at Karolinska Institutet means being part of an international community of students on all levels. One third of our doctoral/PhD students originate from countries outside of Sweden. Karolinska Institutet also has many established partnerships with research institutions across the world.
