Dioxins and PCB are two of the substances that can induce hormonal disturbances and increase the risk of cancer. Despite the fact that PCB was banned over 30 years ago, it persists in our environment as it only breaks down very slowly.
One field of toxicological research is investigating how the body is affected at molecular level by these hormone-impairing environmental toxins and chemicals, in order to allow more accurate risk assessment.
