How do I become a doctoral student at MEB?
There is no centralised admission system for postgraduate education at KI so potential students must contact the department directly.
Potential postgraduate students typically identify a potential supervisor who they work with for several months before submitting a formal application for registration. Applications for admission to postgraduate studies are submitted directly to the department (i.e., MEB) but only after potential supervisors have been identified.
An ideal method of initiating contact with the department and potential supervisors is to perform an undergraduate research project (examensarbete) or take the research preparatory course. We also occasionally advertise doctoral student positions (see the vacant positions section). Keep a look-out for advertisements for the research preparatory course, contact a researcher directly or contact us on e-mail: Eduadmin@meb.ki.se. More information and instructions for how to apply to the research preparatory course please see LINK. Further, MEB sometimes organises a summer research school, which can be a stepping stone to doctoral studies.
Potential students are encouraged to identify and contact researchers working in their field of interest by studying the staff profiles and research projects in the department. A single mail sent to many researchers probably won't elicit a response since researchers receive many such mails.
