Epidemiology is the study of the prevalence of diseases in a given population. Initially, the subject concerned itself with infectious and deficiency diseases, but these days all forms of disease are studied.
Researchers are also trying to find causes of disease, both inherited and environmental. Psychiatric epidemiology studies the incidence rate and causes of psychiatric diseases.
