The overriding aim of Irene Jensen's research is to promote the development and implementation of public health interventions by carrying out high-quality research, refining methodology, and disseminating information.

The research centres upon problems in society, and is carried out in close collaboration with other stakeholders including organised labour, industry associations, insurance companies and local and regional government. The research is interdisciplinary and focused on the scientific evaluation of interventions, with the aim of identifying cost-effective methods of improving the health of the population, as well as on the scientific study of how these can be implemented in society, e.g. in schools, workplaces and within the transport system.
