Christer Betsholtz
Professor of Vascular Biology at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics since 2004.
Vascular biology deals with how blood vessels are formed and their role in different kinds of tissues and organs. Vascular biology research maps the mechanisms that control formation, both under normal biological development and in connection with various diseases. Formation of new blood vessels, or angiogenesis, occurs in diseases like cancer and in connection with a number of inflammatory diseases, and can cause complications in diabetes.
