Student unions
In Sweden, student unions have traditionally played an important role in university life and are often influential forces at the universities. To become a member of one of KI's student unions and participate in your union's activities, you must be a student at KI and pay a membership fee.
Students at Karolinska Institutet have always been actively engaged in academic issues, student welfare and in social activities and entertainment. Today, students are very well represented in the decision-making bodies of Karolinska Institutet, particularly the Board of Higher Education.
The student unions provide a student hosting programme for exchange students. One of the tasks of the student hosts is to meet visiting students upon arrival and to introduce them to Stockholm and to other students at Karolinska Institutet.
