Karolinska Institutet Conferences is an initiative designed to extend and professionalise communication around the scientific conferences and symposia arranged by the university.
It meets the demand for strategic and practical communication support for the organisation’s conference arrangers and helps to disseminate KI’s high quality events and their scientific content. The initiative is based on the successful jubilee support scheme for the arrangers of the 200th jubilee symposia, which attracted much attention both within and outside KI. The concept is also inspired in part by The Nobel Foundation’s symposium series, which was launched in 1965.
What support is being offered?
Professional conference/symposium arrangers are offered communication support in the form of press canvassing, marketing, and graphic design. The meetings covered by the concept will be distinguished by the use of Karolinska Institutet Conference’s official stamp and publicity drives via internal and external channels, signalling that the event is particularly characteristic for KI and that demands on high scientific standards have been met.
How does it work?
Employees planning a scientific event send in an application to the Karolinska Institutet Conferences steering group. Applications are assessed against a set of criteria and then approved or rejected by the dean of the field into which the meeting falls. Principal criterias:
- Karolinska Institutet is the principal organiser.
- The programme is targeted at a professional audience in research and/or education.
- The programme comprises several items and includes external lecturers.
- The programme has particular “scientific eminence”.
Applications are to be made in writing on a separate application form and submitted 3 to 6 months before the scheduled event. Applications must be signed by a head of department or the equivalent. An application form can be downloaded under "Documents" further down on this page.
Karolinska Institutet Conferences are implemented on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of KI in cooperation with the deans and boards of research, education and doctoral education. The administrative body is the University Administration’s Communications and Public Relations Office. Akademikonferens (Conference Services) is contracted to take care of practicalities.
