Funding opportunities within the Horizon 2020 Societal Challenges

Calls within Horizon 2020's Societal Challenges are based on the policy priorities of the European Commission’s agenda for growth and jobs, “the European 2020 strategy”. To be competitive, proposed projects must integrate resources and knowledge from different fields, technologies and disciplines and demonstrate how they will achieve the call's expected impact. Establishing links with the activities of the European Innovation Partnerships (EIP) is also important.

The Horizon 2020 Work Programmes for 2018-2020 will be finalised and published on the European Commission's Participant Portal web page in autumn 2017. Below you will find drafts of the Work Programmes (which should not be distributed outside Karolinska Institutet). These drafts can be used for planning purposes, but there may be changes (both minor and major) in the final versions of the Work Programmes.

  • Decoding the role of environment including climate change on health and developing mitigating measures;
  • Exploring the digital potential for health innovation and healthcare, including the building of a 'European health research and innovation cloud';
  • Stimulating innovation in the European healthcare domain and industry by exploring the application of advanced technologies, improving the health of the workforce and promoting regulatory science.

The new draft Work Programme 2018-2020 includes, among other things, the following calls:

  • Better health and care, economic growth and sustainable health systems.
