Vice-Dean for collaboration with the Stockholm County Council

Carl-Fredrik Wahlgren

E-mail: Carl-Fredrik.Wahlgren@ki.se

Stockholm County Council (SCC) is KI’s largest partner and crucial to the university’s ability to conduct clinical research and provide education through clinical placements and founded on scientific discoveries. Much of its clinical placements (VFU) are currently based at Karolinska University Hospital.

The radical changes that healthcare in Stockholm is going through mean that the playing field for KI is also changing. One of the most important pieces of the puzzle is that Karolinska University Hospital has been reorganised on the lines of a new business model based on themes and functions instead of clinics. Healthcare is also being outsourced.

Given this new healthcare landscape, we need to see that there are enough high-quality VFU places, environments that foster interprofessional learning (so students of different professions get to learn from each other and together) and clinical training environments.

In his new role as vice-dean for collaboration with SCC, Carl-Fredrik Wahlgren will be focusing particularly on education at Karolinska University Hospital. The Vice-Dean reports to Dean of Education Annika Östman Wernerson and is a co-opted member of the Board of Education. His tenure is 50% part-time and will expire on 31 December 2017.

Carl-Fredrik Wahlgren is professor of dermatology and venereology at KI specialising in education.
