Management, teaching, monitoring of disasters and networking
Over the past years KcKM has developed into a larger research centre. The scale-up of activities is reflected in a growing number of publications in scientific papers, more involvement in teaching and courses, enhanced collaboration with actors involved in disaster medicine, more assignments in terms of evaluations and needs assessments and an increased need of planning and management.
In 2011, KcKM signed an agreement with Sida to provide technical support within the research area of needs assessments and improved medical response in humanitarian emergencies. The division between funding from Sida and Socialstyrelsen is clear. The research projects supported by Socialstyrelsen aims at strengthening the Swedish disaster preparedness and response. The Sida-supported research focus more directly on Sidas operational response, aiming at strengthening Sidas capacity to evaluate relevance of proposals through trainings and development of tools such as severity scoring for international relief.
Our core activities represent the daily management of KcKM, with a focus on monitoring of disasters and emerging crises (omvärldsbevakning), development of courses and teaching, networking and preparedness/standby for medical work, needs assessments and evaluations.
Effective daily management of KcKM KI is imperative and a well-coordinated and organized environment enables us to establish ourselves as a leading research institution. We will continute to develop courses and educational programs in disaster medicine and by both participating in and organizing workshops, seminars and conferences within the subject; we ensure our results will be shared with relevant actors. Monitoring and analysis of upcoming humanitarian disasters is part of our daily activities and we will continue to provide advice to various stakeholders involved in disaster response.
- Monitoring and analysis of upcoming major disasters and 24/7 standby for inquiries from agencies and actors regarding the situation and the needs of upcoming disasters
- Disseminate knowledge and experience on disaster response
- Network with knowledge centers, governmental bodies, agencies and major actors involved in disaster response
