About me

  • I completed my PhD in Epidemiology from the School of Population and Public
    Health, University of British Columbia, Canada in January of 2016. My
    doctoral research examined the impact of parental multiple sclerosis on child
    and adolescent developmental health in British Columbia and Manitoba, Canada,
    using linked health and other databases.
    In June of 2016 I moved to Sweden for a postdoc at the Clinical
    Epidemiology Division, Department of Medicine, Karolinksa Institutet,
    Stockholm, led by Prof. Sven Cnattingius, where I focused my research on
    the effect of maternal chronic illness during pregnancy and outcomes in
    offspring using national health databases. I became an Assistant Professor in
    this group in January of 2020.
    *Research funding*
    My research has received funding from, the Swedish Research Council (VR -
    Starting Grant), the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and
    Welfare (FORTE-Junior Grant), Region Stockholm (ALF project grants), the
    Swedish Heart and Lung Foundation (project grant), Åke Wibergs stiftelse,
    Karolinska Institutet and the Canadian Institute of Health Research.

Research

  • I am the team leader for the "/The long-term consequence of maternal and
    neonatal morbidity/" research theme within the "Reproductive, Perinatal and
    Pediatric Epidemiology [1]" research group.
    My team aims to understand the role of maternal and paternal chronic illness
    during pregnancy, and medication use on neurodevelopmental outcomes in
    offspring. Furthermore, we examine neonatal and treatment factors that
    influences the risk of neurodevelopmental and somatic outcomes in childhood
    and early adulthood.
    Our current research focus on three areas: (i) understanding the role of
    maternal and paternal chronic illness during pregnancy, and medication use
    on neurodevelopmental outcomes in offspring
  • (ii) investigating neonatal and
    factors and interventions that influences the risk of neurodevelopmental and
    cardiovascular outcomes in childhood and early adulthood
  • and (iii) examining
    the impact of severe maternal and neonatal morbidity on long term health
    outcomes in women and their offspring.
