About me

  • Marie Arsenian Henriksson was appointed Professor of Molecular Tumor Biology at Karolinska Institutet in 2010. Since March 2023, she is also KI's Academic Vice President for Research. She has previously been Head of the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (2006-2016), teacher representative in the University Board of KI (2019-2021) and is also a member of KI's Recruitment Committee since 2021.

Research

  • Marie Arsenian Henriksson's research is focused on the so-called MYC genes, which are activated in at least a third of all cancers, including lymphoma, breast cancer and neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is the second most lethal childhood cancer after leukaemia, and where amplification of the MYCN gene (N for neuro) is associated with a worse prognosis.

Research into the MYC genes aims at increased knowledge of how these genes function under normal conditions and contribute to the development of tumor diseases. Knowledge that is important for the development of new, tailored cancer treatments.
