Research

  • As a pediatric gastroenterologist, most of my clinical time is devoted to
patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). They are sometimes severely
ill and require advanced treatments like nutritional treaments, medicines and
    sometimes surgery.
The knowledge gaps concerning IBD etiology and treatments are many. Which is
the mechanism of the inflammatory suppression initiated of nutritional
treatment in Crohn's disease? The connection between the IBD patients
microbiota and immunological profile - what does it look like? Is nutritional
treatments also an alternative in ulcerative colitis? Is it possible to
change the microbiota with nutritional treatments?
My group work with translational studies concerning these questions. We
investigate the clinical outcome of new nutritional treatments and if and how
the microbiome and immunological profile in the mucosa, with focus on innate
    lymphocytes, may change after treatment.
The aim of my research is to improve the life and health of children and
youth with IBD, and maybe the treatment recommendations may be changed if we
can show if (and how) new ways of nutritional treatment is effective as
    induction of remission in IBD.
