About me

  • Associate professor of psychology and a psychoanalyst, affiliated with the
    National Center of Suicide Research and Prevention (NASP) at Karolinska
    Institutet since 1997. The topic of my doctoral dissertation 1992, the
    psychological predicament of siblings of schizophrenic individuals, has
    carried over in a continued interest in aspects of psychic survival under
    dire circumstances, including after the suicide of a loved one. Subsequent
    publications include studies on anxiety and psychological defense in suicidal
    states, attitudes to suicide prevention, the suicide-nearness of prominent
    writers, the history of psychoanalysis in Sweden, antisemitism, mental-health
    challenges of refugees and migrants and, in collaboration with
    epidemiologists in Scandinavia and Finland, suicide mortality in the Nordic
    region.
