Research description

My research includes two main levels of activity. The first is at a methodological level and is focused on methodological advancements in PET quantification using high-resolution PET technology. The second, at a more applied level, but based on the achievements accomplished at the methodological level, is focused on the development of novel imaging biomarkers for Parkinson´s disease (PD) and Huntington´s disease (HD). The overall aims are to develop suitable tools for better characterization and longitudinal follow-up of PD and HD patients. In PD, the aim of new imaging biomarkers is to examine the biochemical changes that might be associated with the progression of motor symptoms, with the development of non-motor symptoms, such as depression and cognitive impairment, and with the assessment of new therapeutic approaches. In HD, the aim of new imaging biomarkers is to identify biochemical targets that can be of relevance for the development of new treatment strategies.
