Sirkka-Liisa Ekman - Professor emerita of Nursing at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society.

One of the important goals of research into nursing of the elderly is to study the individual from a holistic point of view, when physiological, as well as psychological, cultural and ethnic aspects are taken into account. Particular emphasis is placed upon identifying the individual's own resources and working out how these can be used to help in everyday situations and to improve quality of life. It is a process that builds upon cooperation between the elderly person, healthcare personnel and relatives.

Sirkka-Liisa Ekman was appointed professor in 2005. She is professor emerita since 2010.
