Susceptibility to herpes zoster (shingles)

Who is susceptible to herpes zoster (shingles), how common are complications after disease and what complications are most common?

This project is highly related to vaccines in regards to potential future implementation of both chicken pox and herpes zoster vaccines. Herpes zoster is a spontaneous reactivation of a latent varicella zoster virus infection. This reactivation is common and is associated with various severe complications e.g. chronic pain. This register-based study aims to investigate incidence of Herpes zoster, rates of complications from Herpes zoster and the economic burden in the health care in Sweden, in order to determine prerequisites and strategies for vaccination of chickenpox and Herpes zoster.
