Clinical Research Center

Denna sida på svenska

Clinical Research Center is a common resource for researchers from different departments at Karolinska Institutet and/or clinics at Karolinska University Hospital.

The major part of the clinical research at Karolinska University Hospital is performed at CRC, presently comprising some 20 research groups with over 150 employees.

Each group works with grant funded projects within the infrastructure of CRC, and has the opportunity to use heavy equipment such as electron microscopes. They also have access to advanced techniques such as production and analysis of transgenic animals as well as high-throughput mutation analysis in addition to well-equipped animal departments. Our aim is to create a high quality infrastructure equipped to provide services requested by the research groups at KI-South.

Each year more than 300 scientific publications, corresponding to a major part of the research performed at Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge, are produced at CRC or using resources from CRC. The research at CRC covers different areas of experimental biomedicine, with some of the groups working entirely with clinical problems while others deal with basic science. The close proximity of CRC to other research groups and organisations in the Novum building catalyzes new cooperation and breakthrough discoveries.

To ensure optimal cooperation between KI and Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge, CRC is also a division of the Department of Laboratory Medicine. A hallmark of CRC’s own research groups, besides conducting their own research, is running sophisticated equipment and/or providing advanced techniques for the other research groups at KI, often organised as core facilities. With its particular position in the interface between basic science and clinical application, CRC has a unique opportunity to translate progress in biomedical research into new methods and principles for diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
