Position: PhD student at the Dept. of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB).
Isabell chose to come to study at Karolinska Institutet because Sweden, and MEB, has some of the best data and resources available for doing twin research and psychiatric epidemiology, which is her field of interest. Her research focuses on co-morbidity, development and genetic risk factors associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Isabell feels that the PhD education at KI in general, and within her department in particular, provides great opportunities and support for learning new skills and making research connections around the world.
I am learning new things every week and I get to work autonomously, which are both great motivators for me. Since I started my PhD, I have worked with research methods I’ve never thought I would use and meet friends and colleagues from all over the world.”
The reason Isabell wanted to be a Digital Ambassador for KI was to try bridge the gap between the research community and the ‘outside’ world and she hopes that social media and blogging will be one way to do this.
I think the gap between the research community and the public is too big and that we who work within academia need to become much better at communicating the important work we do and showing who we are!”
