Karolinska Institutet has joined the international collaboration edX for offering its first MOOCs. Edx is a non-profit organization and a leading actor for making higher education accessible to anybody anywhere in the world.
A better education
The educational platform edX was founded by Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Today more than 40 universities are offering hundreds of free web-based courses in various areas and topics on the platform. Like all MOOCs on edX, KI’s massive open online courses are free and available for everybody.
EdX’s overall goal is to design a better education by
- Expanding access to education for everyone
- Enhancing teaching and learning on campus and online
- Advancing teaching and learning through research
EdX is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is governed by MIT and Harvard.
KI and edX
For Karolinska Institutet being part of the edX consortium means not only collaborating with some of the leading global players in higher education but also being able to share its knowledge with a large group of people around the world, as Nabil Zary, former coordinator of KI’s partnership with edX, explains:
“It also means that we’re honouring our social responsibilities. We’ve been wanting to share our knowledge and make our courses more widely available for a long time, and now at last we’ve found the means to do it. This is just the beginning”, says Nabil Zary.
