Clinical Science Intervention and Technology (CLINTEC) is one of Karolinska Institutets proud departments. With a rich and challenging history it contributes to the development of tomorrows professionals in health care and research.

Creative multidisciplinary environments are pivotal for breakthrough research. Critical thinking, skills, courage, good judgement and compassion are important for groundbreaking research. The information age has changed the clinician from being a source of knowledge, professional judgement and skills to a human information system between technology and the patient. When Karolinska Institutet was established more than 200 years ago, Napoleons chief surgeon Dominique Jean Larrey performed rapid battle field amputations in 30 seconds. His technical skills were matched with humanism.

In Karolinska Institutets third century, system biology has amazingly added to technical skills at the sharp end and humanism. This is the legacy of CLINTEC.
