Erasmus Mundus

Erasmus Mundus aims to enhance quality in higher education through scholarships and academic cooperation between Europe and the rest of the world. The programme started in 2004 to promote European higher education as a centre of excellence in the world. Erasmus Mundus II covers the period 2009-2013.

Erasmus Mundus offers financial support for institutions and scholarships for individuals. Funding is available for:

  • Action 1 - Joint Masters and Doctorates including scholarships
  • Action 2 - Partnerships with Third Country higher education institutions and scholarships for students and academics
  • Action 3 - Projects to promote European higher education worldwide

Action 2, ERACOL

The Erasmus Columbus project (ERACOL) provides academic mobility scholarships for exchange between Europe and Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama in thematic fields related to HEALTH and PUBLIC HEALTH.

KI participates in the programme since 2010 in a consortium for collaboration between 5 European universities and 6 universities in Colombia, Costa Rica and Panamá. ERACOL provides scholarships for undergraduate and master's students, doctoral and postdoctorate students, and academic staff. These scholarships include tuition fees (where applicable), a subsistence allowance, travel costs, and insurance. The duration of the scholarship (from 1 to 34 months) varies according to the type of position applied for. The exchanges must start no later than September 1, 2010.

Students and staff at ERACOL partner universities including Karolinska Institutet and citizens of Colombia, Costa Rica and Panamá are invited to apply.

ERACOL Erasmus-Columbus

Five different types of individual mobility flows and duration are as follows:

  • Bachelor/First level - from Europe and Latin America 6 - 10 months
  • Master/Second level - from Europe 6 - 10 months; from Latin America 8 - 12 months
  • Doctorates/Third level - from Europe 6 - 8 months; from Latin America 18 - 34 months
  • Post-doctorates fellowship - from Europe and Latin America 6 - 10 months
  • Teaching staff/Academic staff - from Europe and Latin America 1 - 3 months

Action 2, EM ECW India Lot 15/13

The Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window programme (EM ECW) is an EU-financed scholarship programme with the aim of increasing mobility within certain selected geographical regions, so called "lots".

KI participates in the programme since 2008, through a consortium for collaboration between 12 European universities and 8 universities in India. The duration of the programme is until 2013. Lund University in Sweden is the Coordinating University. The objective of the programme is to achieve better understanding and mutual enrichment between the European Union and third countries in the field of higher education through promoting the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills at a higher education level.
