Thematic overview of our core facilities
Animal experimental facilities
The managing organisation for all aspects of animal experimentation in research at Karolinska Institutet is Comparative Medicine. Our scientists also have access to animal facilities managed by the Karolinska University Hospital.
Biobanks, registries and epidemiology
Karolinska Institutet has globally unique resources in biobanking and longitudinal cohorts, as well as expanding competence in biostatistics. This puts our university at the frontline of medical epidemiological research in an international perspective.
Biosafety and translational
Karolinska Institutet collaborates closely with the healthcare sector, mainly in the Stockholm county area. Here we present clinical and translational research infrastructures, as well as different kinds of laboratory resources, including BSL-3.
Imaging and X-ray
Karolinska Institutet offers a wide range of imaging and X-ray infrastructures. Our facilities collaborate closely with other world-leading centres to ensure that we stay at the forefront of the field.
Omics and high-throughput
Facilities and resources within proteomics and genomics and related techniques, including single cell analysis, located at our two main campuses. Several of the listed core facilities are also a part of the national research facility SciLifeLab.
Stem cells, engineering and FACS
Cutting edge fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) technologies are mandatory elements in the toolbox of a leading medical university. Karolinska Institutet also provide platforms for pluripotent stem cells, CRISPR, and material engineering.
